ADHD Continued Prescribing Clinic

Dr Christina Gray leads our ADHD Continued Prescribing Clinic, providing ongoing management and prescribing for patients with an established ADHD diagnosis. Under Australia’s evolving ADHD prescribing frameworks, suitably qualified GPs can now play a greater role in the long-term management of ADHD, helping patients access timely, local care while maintaining high clinical standards. Dr Gray works within a collaborative care model, reviewing treatment effectiveness, monitoring physical and mental health outcomes, managing medication renewals, and liaising with the patient’s diagnosing psychiatrist or specialist when required. This approach allows many stable patients to receive ongoing ADHD care through their GP, reducing the need for frequent specialist appointments while ensuring treatment remains safe, effective, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

* YSM’s ADHD clinic is available on Thursdays for adult patients between the ages of 18 -60 only

Key requirements for GP continued prescribing of ADHD medication include:

  • The patient must have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis from an appropriately qualified specialist (usually a psychiatrist, paediatrician, or neurologist).
  • The patient’s medication regimen should be stable before transfer to GP-led ongoing care.
  • The GP must have appropriate documentation from the diagnosing specialist, including diagnosis, treatment history, and prescribing recommendations.
  • ADHD stimulant medications remain Schedule 8 controlled medicines and are subject to state-based prescribing regulations and monitoring requirements.
  • Ongoing review of treatment effectiveness, side effects, cardiovascular health, and functional outcomes remains essential.
  • Some patients with complex presentations, significant psychiatric comorbidity, medication instability, or the need for major treatment changes may still require specialist review.

How It Works

  1. Specialist Diagnosis
Patients must first have a formal ADHD diagnosis and treatment plan from an appropriately qualified specialist, such as a psychiatrist.
  2. Referral and Documentation Review
You will be required to fill in an ADHD Continued Prescribing screening questionnaire for Dr Gray to review, along with the specialist’s assessment, diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and any prescribing authority requirements to determine suitability for ongoing GP-led care.
  3. Initial ADHD Continuity Appointment
During your first appointment, Dr Gray will review your medical history, current medications, treatment response, physical health, and any side effects or concerns.
  4. Ongoing Prescribing and Monitoring
Once established in our clinic, Dr Gray can provide ongoing prescriptions, monitor treatment effectiveness, assess blood pressure, heart rate, weight (where appropriate), and ensure medications continue to be safe and effective.
  5. Regular Reviews
ADHD treatment requires periodic review to assess symptom control, functional outcomes, medication benefits, and any emerging health concerns. Review will occur every 6 months.
  6. Collaborative Specialist Care
Dr Gray will work closely with your treating psychiatrist or specialist when required. Patients with complex clinical needs, significant medication changes, or emerging mental health concerns may be referred back for specialist review.
  7. Long-Term Support
Our goal is to provide convenient, high-quality ongoing ADHD care within general practice, helping patients maintain continuity of treatment while reducing the need for frequent specialist appointments.

Please note: Eligibility for continued prescribing is assessed on an individual basis and is subject to current NSW prescribing regulations, clinical suitability, and receipt of appropriate specialist documentation.

Dr Grays ADHD clinic runs independently of her Integrative GP clinic. Whilst we are inviting new patients for the ADHD clinic, Dr Gray is NOT taking on new integrative GP patients.
